He belongs to the seventh generation of the famous Etawah gharana (also known as Imdadkhani Gharana) of sitar playing. Shahid Parvez is the son of Ustad Aziz Khan, the third generation Imdadkhani maestro, and a grandson of Ustad Wahid Khan, the Surbahar and Sitar virtuoso. Gayaki ang shows the influence of Ustad Vilayat Khan, his father's cousin.
